Coaster Making Memories

This beautiful painting of LuLu's Gulf Shores restaurant was commissioned by Lucy Buffet to celebrate LuLu’s 25th Anniversary.

The purpose of a drink coaster is to protect surfaces from condensation, stains, heat damage, and scratches. Coasters can also be used to show that a drink is not finished or to prevent contamination.

How do coasters work?

• Protect from condensation: Cold drinks cause condensation on the outside of the glass, which can damage wooden or leather surfaces.
• Protect from heat: Hot drinks can burn table surfaces.
• Protect from stains: Water droplets from cold drinks can stain surfaces.
• Protect from scratches: Debris or cracks on the bottom of glasses can scratch surfaces.

Other uses for coasters

• Show that a drink is not finished: A coaster placed on top of a beverage can also be used to show that a drink is not finished.
• Tokens of gratitude: Coasters can be used as tokens of gratitude at weddings.
• Prevent contamination: A coaster placed on top of a beverage can prevent contamination (usually from insects).
